Machine Learning Intern

Nijmegen

Introduction:

At NTS Optel we design, develop and test special and custom-made optics in the field of illumination, imaging, sensing, laser beam delivery and integrated nanostructure metrology solutions. Our specialistic and highly-appreciated knowledge is used to develop and produce modules and complete systems for our high-tech customers in the semiconductor, analytical and health markets. Our teams consists of 15 highly-educated people who are working on challenging optical assignments to accelerate the development of our customer’s products. We are continuously looking for new technologies to improve our added value to our customer. One of these new technologies is described in this assignment.

Assignment (Machine Learning in Image Processing):

Frequently the optical systems we develop contain one or more cameras. And with it comes the need for image processing software. Although we have built quite an impressive image processing library over time suitable to handle most situations we sometimes run into challenges that cannot easily be tackled using classical rule based software.

We want to expand our knowledge by investigating the field of artificial deep learning.

The assignment is to design and, if time permits, setup and test a Machine Learning hard- and software system that can be used for a variety of image processing tasks, more specifically defect detection and classification.

The assignment consists of the following components:

·        Literature study

·        Comparing the merits of different software solutions (e.g. commercial vs. open source)

·        Design a setup for the most promising solution

·        Select components needed

If time and money permits :

·        Build a dedicated AI computer system

·        Gather images samples from our archive or create new samples in our optical lab

·        Experimentally verify the performance

Required skillset for the student:

·        Bachelor or Master Student (Artificial Intelligence, Applied Physics with AI minor)

·        Affinity with optics and AI

Additional information:

You will work at out location in Nijmegen. You will be coached by one of our experienced optical and image processing engineers and we expect from you a driven and enthusiastic attitude. You will receive an allowance of € 500,- per month.
